RIVERA RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CORP - ENDORSEE TOMMY DENANDER
RETIRING AT 28?
Retire at the age of 28? Well, after a playing career spanning some
23 years, Swedish guitarist and Rivera endorsee Tommy Denander almost
did decide to call it a day.
But only after signing a major label deal at 14 and later switching
to studio work: 900 sessions in all that yielded more than 40 singles,
50 albums, a number of film soundtracks, not to mention work on TV shows
and jingles. Soon after spurning the notion of retirement and the obligatory
solo album, Tommy Denander decided to bite the bullet and opted to record
a series of 10 discs showcasing his skills as both composer and player.
His first two releases, "Less Is More" and "Skeleton"
were
both recorded using the Rivera KnuckleHead 55.
"After trying a Rivera TBR-1 amp at the '86 Frankfurt show, I bought
one soon afterwards," says Denander. "Around '88 I tried all
sorts of amps and racks before noticing my guitar sound was being buried
by everything in my rack.
That scared me. All you could hear was stereo
delays, reverbs and choruses. It sounded terrible.
So I sold the rack and returned to the TBR-1. In early '95 I got a KnuckleHead
55. I don't think I've ever had an amp before that's great for every
kind of sound I need. It's so honest, so pure," says the guitarist,
"it brings out the guitar."
